The Four Types of Autumn in Colour Analysis
In the 16-season personal colour analysis system, the Autumn season is one of the most warm and rich categories. This season is characterized by its warm undertones, medium to low contrast, and deep, earthy colours. Within the Autumn category, there are four sub-types: True Autumn, Deep Autumn, Warm Autumn, and Muted Autumn.
By understanding the value, intensity, and undertone of each Autumn season, you can select the perfect colours for your wardrobe and makeup, ensuring you always look your best.

True Autumn
True Autumn is the original the Autumn season. The hues are warm, rich, and earthy; and True Autumn individuals shine in colours that reflect the natural autumn landscape.
Value: Light to deep
Intensity: Muted
Undertone: Extra warm (golden-based)
Colours within True Autumn: True Autumn colours are warm, muted, and earthy. This includes shades like mustard yellow, burnt orange, olive green, and chocolate brown.
Colours to avoid: True Autumns should avoid cool and icy tones, such as blue, pink, and grey, as these can make their complexion look ashen.
Deep Autumn
Deep Autumn is the season between Autumn and Winter, sharing some of the depth and richness of Winter, but with warmer undertones. The colours are deeper and more intense.
Value: Low to medium contrast with deep and dark colours
Intensity: High
Undertone: Neutral leaning warm
Colours within Deep Autumn: Deep Autumn colours are rich and dark, such as deep olive, burgundy, dark chocolate, and forest green. These colours are intense and highly pigmented.
Colours to avoid: Deep Autumn individuals should avoid light, pastel, and overly bright hues like icy blue, pale pink, and light grey, which can make them look “washed out”.
Warm Autumn
Warm Autumn lies between Autumn and Spring, featuring some of the bright, golden qualities of Spring. The colours are warm, vibrant, and slightly softer than True Autumn. Think of this season as a “toastier” version of True Spring.
Value: Low to medium contrast
Intensity: Medium to high
Undertone: Warm
Colours within Warm Autumn: Warm Autumn colours are golden, spicy, and rich. Think of shades like pumpkin, warm gold, apricot, and rust.
Colours to Avoid: Warm Autumn individuals should avoid cool and muted shades like blue, grey, and pastel colours, which can clash with their warm complexion.
Muted (or Soft) Autumn
Muted/Soft Autumn is a transition season between Autumn and Summer, incorporating some of the soft, muted qualities of Summer. The colours are more subdued and less vibrant than True Autumn.
Value: Low
Intensity: Low to medium
Undertone: Neutral, leaning warm
Colours within Muted Autumn: Muted Autumn colours are soft, gentle, and earthy. Think of shades like taupe, sage green, soft mustard, and muted terracotta.
Colours to Avoid: Muted Autumn individuals should avoid overly bright and icy colours like neon pink, electric blue, and stark white, which can overpower them.
